Here's what someone walking or driving by northbound on Tuesday would have seen after the upper clerestory walls were raised. The church building will soon be even more visible.

Some of you have said you can not seethe photos on the blog. You may need to install a new version of Flash on your computer. This is fairly easy. Go to www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer and follow the instructions. It should take less than half a dozen mouse clicks.
Here's what we've done -- and what's still left to do
2005 -- Master plan created. Congregation pledges $300,000 to building fund within three years. 2006 -- Architect draws up building plans. 2007 -- Finance and construction documents drawn up. 2008 -- Finance and construction documents submitted. Portables moved in and set up for pre-school and offices during construction. Building permit issued. Financial documents under review by national church officials. Construction plans reviewed with contractors to find ways to save money. October and early November 2008 -- Very quiet. Waiting to get all financial forms and documents submitted and approved. Week of Nov. 16 -- The loan closes! This project will approach $1 million! Now, the real work begins! Week of Nov. 23 -- All the little bits of furniture and food and supplies and equipment are hurriedly packed away. Selective demolition begins. Week of Nov. 30 -- Our final Sunday worship for many months in our usual sanctuary. Unselective demolition is slated to begin on Bruce Hall and the pre-school/Sunday school buildings. Week of Dec. 7 -- Our first Sunday of Exodus, as it were, worshipping in the gym at St. Brendan's. Preparing the site for foundation work. Week of Dec. 15 -- Foundation work continues. Week of Dec. 22 -- Snowstorm postpones the Christmas pageant on Sunday in the multipurpose room at Maywood Hills Elementary. Small Sunday service in the office portable. Christmas Eve service at St. Brendan's gym. Week of Dec. 29 -- Still too much snow and ice to do much work. Week of Jan. 4 -- Finishing the foundation work. Week of Jan. 11 -- As soon as concrete work is done, proceed with digging drains and backfilling around foundation walls. Also, begin framing of floors. Week of Jan. 18 -- Christmas pageant on Sunday at Maywood Hills Elementary School multipurpose room. Finishing decking on lower floor. Jan. 24 -- Work party to move most stuff remaining in narthex, sanctuary and offices to storage. Week of Jan. 25 -- Finishing drainage backfill, finishing decking. Week of Feb. 1 -- Wall framing proceeds at a rapid pace, with limited demolition of the narthex and north exterior of the sanctuary building. Week of Feb. 8 -- Beams were placed to support structure for entry way roof. Trusses were placed on the classroom wing to support the roof there. Demolition in the narthex continues. Week of Feb. 15 -- Metal poles will be placed to support main beams. Sheathing and paper could be installed for the classroom wing roof. Trusses could be placed over the offices, kitchen and bathrooms. More roofbeams could be placed in the entry way. Week of Feb. 22 -- The upper walls of the clerestory were raised and stabilized. The front and back walls and trusses were put in place to help strengthen it. Warren put roofing on the classroom wing south side. Week March 1 -- Planning, consulting, inspecting and roofing early in the week. Wednesday, the clerestory trusses were lifted onto the walls. By Friday, all were blocked into place, fascia boards were installed, the north side roofing was done. A Saturday work crew began tearing down the north wall of the sanctuary. Week of March 8 -- Windows arrived Monday and were installed all week. Clerestory sheathing and half the roofing was installed. The heating contractor began work. Week of March 15 -- Clerestory roofiing completed. Demolition of north end of sanctuary building (north half of narthex) begins. New roof begun. Under-floor heat duct work proceeds. Street cut for sprinkler main. Week of March 22 -- Exterior doors installed. Half of roof from sanctuary to clerestory finished. Framing underneath it. Plumbing and air ducts now visible. Water main excavation, valve placement in 104th Avenue and near it. Week of March 29 -- Demolition continues to the north end of the sanctuary building. Working on new roof from sanctuary to clerestory. Windows installed around the front door. Plumbing, water main , HVAC work continues. A couple of paperwork hiccoughs resolved with General Assembly. Week of April 5 -- Water lines for sprinkler system and domestic use run from street to building. Two big windows installed in the sanctuary. Removal of the back wall of the sanctuary begins. Electrical work and water supply plumbing begin. More fun with General Assembly paperwork. Week of April 12 -- Easter Sunday egg hunt in the new building. The crew starts putting the siding on. Last bits of framing inside the building. Final plumbing work until it's time for fixtures. Electrical panels in place, but not wired yet. Week of April 19 -- The back wall of the old sanctuary comes down with youth group's help. More siding installed. Some plumbing for sprinkler system installed. Electrical junction boxes installed and reinstalled. Week of April 27 -- Gutters and downspouts installed. More siding installed. Electrical and HVAC work continues. Week of May 4 -- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC. More siding installed. Roof vents for plumbing. Week of May 11 -- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC. Mound Emmanuel leveled, spread on front and back lawns. Landscaping begins with a work party Saturday. Week of May 18 -- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC. Siding on north and south sides of clerestory. Insulation and drywall installation begin in the classroom wing over Memorial Day weekend. Week of May 25 -- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, caulking, insulation, drywall. Week of June 1 -- Exterior & classrooms painted. Drywall in fellowship areas, offices, clerestory. Grass planted. Week of June 8 -- Fire sprinklers finished. More drywall work. Grass greens up. Exterior doors framed and painted. Second landscaping work party on Saturday. Week of June 15 -- More drywall work inside. Clerestory painted. Exterior vents installed. Grass thickens. Week of June 22 -- Porch, curb concrete poured. Shrubbery work. Exterior cleanup. Interior drywall work. Week of June 29 -- More exterior concrete work. More interior drywall work. Week of July 6 -- More exterior concrete work. More interior drywall work. Electrical boxes installed. Beams for front awning support installed. Week of July 13 -- Landscaping. Work under way for flooring, tiles. Week of July 20 -- Preschool vinyl flooring and cabinets installed. Nursery cabinets, various flooring on hand. Work continues in sanctuary, on outside cleanup and prep work. Week of July 27 -- Tiling in the main men's and women's restroom's; hanging of interior doors; trim work. Week of August 3 -- Installing tile, grouting, doors, trim, vinyl flooring, sanctuary glazing, stove hood, awning crossbeams and address on building; insulating crawlspaces. Week of August 10 -- Preparations for painting. Second round of hydroseeding. Installation of roof fan to vent range hood, range fire suppression kit and range backsplash. Junk removal and general straightening up for painting. Door to utility basement. Restroom sink counters. Some working lightbulbs. Landscape and kitchen permits. Everything not to be painted was covered in tape, paper or plastic. Week of August 17 -- Nearly every room in one stage or another of being painted. Drywall goes up in the kitchen, plus a pass-through counter and doors. Organ-speaker wiring. Outdoor fire alarm. Awning cover ready for installation. Week of August 24 -- More painting. Playyard chips and fence. Blacktop patch. Outdoor lighting. Kitchen painting. Door handles. Toilets delivered. Crawlspace doors built. Kitchen fan safety platform. Week of August 31 -- Looking for window and wall washers. Hang platform and organ speakers. Carpets laid nearly everywhere except sanctuary. Touchup painting. Lots of little details. Kitchen sinks arrives. Saturday work party to clean out sanctuary for carpeting. Playyard finished, toys cleaned. Week of Sept. 7 -- Carpet laid in sanctuary. Lights hung. Urinals finished. Restroom partitions. Front doors hung. Hardware installed. Crosses rehung in sanctuary. Fire lane signs. Kitchen sinks installed. Occupancy permit: 4:20 p.m. Friday! Pastor Steve's and Rena's offices moved from mobiles to new offices. Week of Sept. 14 -- Preschool opens Monday in its new classrooms. Pastor Steve and Rena' settle into new offices. Ramps to mobiles removed. Mobiles taken away. Organ, piano returned. All carpets finished. Organ speaker grill reinstalled. Lawn fertilized. Driveway cleaned up. Folding wall in preschool installed. Last worship service at the St. Brendan's Catholic Church gym. Week of Sept. 21 -- Church and community groups hold meetings in new building. Clerestory and sanctuary light fixtures installed. Roses transplanted. Clerestory windows cleaned. Front door area painted. Chairs taken from storage and set up in sanctuary. First service on Sunday. Week of Sept. 28 -- Working through the punch list. Warren takes a well-deserved week off. Larry, Paul and Bob work on shelves and doors and such. Going forward -- The punch list contains such things as sanctuary lighting, front door glass, the awning roof, the cross in the front window, men's room laminate repairs, window cleaning, clerestory lighting, storage shelving, cabinets, a folding wall and the kitchen, of course.
